Lathrop Bullene
was born in the beautiful bayou country of Louisiana. From his
earliest memories he has been whittling on wood and drawing pictures.
As a child he spent long afternoons in the workshop of a Danish
woodcarver. Upon winning a carving contest for an elephant he
had created from a bar of soap, he was given his own corner of
the shop, at the grand old age of twelve. This ability to immerse
himself in a passion is a quality he has rekindled in many venues.
It seems appropriate that as a marine during World War II, he
was one of the famous Carlsonís Raiders, as a fencing
master he won the eppe medal, the highest award for the dueling
sword, and has performed light opera. Lathrop has studied in
such prestigious institutions as Corcoran Galleries in Washington,
D.C., the Jepson and Chouinard Institutes in Los Angeles, and
the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, as well as Arizona
State University. Although well known for his historical and imaginative bronzes, he is now devoting most of his time working in stone. He prefers alabaster from Utah and marble from Italy and California. His work is some of the finest found anywhere. Please call 805-962-8885 or Email Us for information |
