Christopher Green
Christopher Green was born in
England. A major influence on his life was the time he spent
as a novice in a Cistercian monastery. He took up serious painting
after moving to Santa Monica in 1993, and studies with Barbara
Ashton at Brentwood Art Center. Watercolor is his preferred medium.
"In my paintings I try to
create something accessible and beautiful, that lifts the spirit,"
he says. Working on small or large scale, he becomes easily absorbed
in what is for him an exercise in meditation. Places reflected
in his paintings are: the English countryside, especially the
Lake District, (the landscape and unpredictable weather have
inspired some of his best work), Hawaii, and cathedrals and abbeys
in two series of paintings: "The Holy Places of England".
He has painted a series of commissioned paintings for the Cathedral
of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles and his work is also
featured on book covers and several compact discs.
He has received other commissions
here and in England as well as in Portland, Oregon, where his
work was shown at Onda Studio and Gallery. Today Christopher's
paintings hang on walls across the world from the USA and as
far as Germany, Australia and Singapore.
