Born in 1947 in Beijing, China, Steele Xiang showed exceptional art talents at an early age. He won the silver prize in Beijing Children's Drawing Competition which was published nationally in the magazine Little Friends at age of six. Then He was admitted to the very prestigious Beijing Children's Palace Art School while in third grade. When Steele Xiang was fifteen he won entrance to the demanding nine-year program at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, the finest art school in China. At the Central Academy he studied with instructors who had been trained in Europe and the Soviet Union. Since 1973, he began teaching at the Shanghai Teacher's University and later in the College of Fine Art, Shanghai University. During the late 70's and 80's, His paintings exhibited almost yearly in the city and nationwide. He was also very active to illustrate magazines and published many children's story books. In 1988 Steele Xiang immigrated to United States to advance his art career. He studied in Academy of Art College in San Francisco from 1988 to 1990. Steele Xiang
has developed an exceptional Western realistic painting style
in oil. He concentrates on landscape painting, figurative painting
and still lifes. He has conducted a series of California golden
hills landscape, sea harbor and boat landscape and China water
canal landscape which become quite popular for collectors. He
has exhibited his works throughout United State and overseas
since 1989. An award winner in 1995 of the prestigious California
Art Club 86th Golden Metal Show. |
